The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, formed in 1971 by a group of Los Angeles based writers for children, is the only international organization to offer a variety of services to people who write, illustrate, or share a vital interest in children’s literature. The SCBWI acts as a network for the exchange of knowledge between writers, illustrators, editors, publishers, agents, librarians, educators, booksellers and others involved with literature for young people. There are currently more than 19,000 members worldwide, in over 70 regions, making it the largest children's writing organization in the world.

ON-GOING OPEN GROUPS

Charleston Writing Group –Meets the third Thursday of the month @7:00 pm Location varies from month to month, but we always meet at a member's house. Columbia – We are an email-based critique group. We rotate scheduled weekly submissions so that everyone gets to submit a manuscript once each month. Greenwood-Abbeville area –Lakesland Writer's Guild meets the second and fourth Tuesday evenings at 6:30 at the Due West Retirement Center, Carlisle conference room.     Also meets Saturday mornings 11 AM. Tentative meeting place Ada's Coffee Shop on the Abbeville Town Square One member's work is considered at each meeting where all others present written critiques. The genres are varied from poetry to fiction and non-fiction prose..

Spartanburg – Sparkle City group meets every other Monday from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. in a study room at the Westside Library, 525 Oak Grove Road. Please bring up to five pages, double-spaced, and/or artwork, of whatever you are currently working on to share.
