The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, formed in 1971 by a group of Los Angeles based writers for children, is the only international organization to offer a variety of services to people who write, illustrate, or share a vital interest in children’s literature. The SCBWI acts as a network for the exchange of knowledge between writers, illustrators, editors, publishers, agents, librarians, educators, booksellers and others involved with literature for young people. There are currently more than 19,000 members worldwide, in over 70 regions, making it the largest children's writing organization in the world.

SCBWI Carolinas Spring Retreat

The Elements of Story

 

We are delighted to return to the Carolina Chapter tradition of anannual spring retreat in the peaceful seclusion of Aqueduct RetreatCenter's woodland setting. This will be an inspiring weekend ofinformative talks on what makes a good story great, enlighteningcritiques, valuable writing time and communion with like-mindedchildren's writers.

 

With an understanding of the continuing soft economiy we will reduce the Retreat costs to $390 for all participants. And, we have extended the deadline date to March 8, 2010. We hope this makes this outstanding opportunity more affordable to our membership.


Participants can sign in starting at 2PM on Friday afternoon. The event begins with a 5PM Happy Hour and concludes with lunch on Sunday. You will hear one hour presentations from each of the faculty and EVERY participant will have a 20 minute critique with either an editor or author. 



Retreat Faculty include  JenniferRees, Senior Editor of Scholastic Books, Stacy Cantor, Editor, WalkerBooks for Young Readers, and Bruce Hale, Author Chet Gecko Mysteriesseries and the comics-novel hybrid, Underwhere
